Why Trust Matters: 10 Years of Building Display Geek

10 Years of Building Display Geek and What This Business Means to Me

By Sean, Founder of Display Geek, inc.

When I stop and think about the fact that Display Geek has been built over the last 10 years, it means a lot to me.

Like most business owners, I spend most of my time thinking about what is next. The next product. The next improvement. The next challenge to solve. The next goal to hit. I do not spend enough time looking back at what has already been built. But every once in a while, I think it is important to do that.

And when I look back at start of Display Geek, the biggest thing I feel is pride. I am beyond grateful for everything.

Not just because I built a business from nothing and with nothing. Not just because we have been around for over a decade. But because Display Geek has earned something that matters even more to me than growth alone: Trust.

For 10 years, Display Geek has focused on helping collectors protect, display, and enjoy the items they care about most. That trust was not handed to us. It was earned over time through consistency, experience, and a real understanding of what collectors expect when they spend their money with a company like ours.

That means everything to me.

Display Geek Was Built With Collectors in Mind

From the beginning, I never wanted Display Geek to feel like just another generic online store.

There are plenty of businesses that sell products without truly understanding the people they are selling to. That was never the goal here. I wanted Display Geek to be a company that collectors could come to because they knew we understood the details that actually matter.

Collectors are not casual customers. They pay attention. They care about condition. They care about protection. They care about fit. They care about presentation. They care about whether a company genuinely understands why these items matter in the first place.

That mindset shaped Display Geek from the start. I am a collector. I get it.

This business was built around the idea that collectors deserve more than a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether someone is shopping for protectors, acrylic cases, or display solutions, I have always wanted them to feel like they are buying from a brand that gets it.

That focus has been one of the biggest reasons I am proud of what Display Geek has become.

Reputation Is Earned, Not Claimed

One thing I have learned over the years is that reputation is not something you can simply say you have. It has to be earned.

It is earned one order at a time. One customer at a time. One decision at a time.

A lot of people think reputation comes from big milestones, impressive numbers, or flashy moments. Those things may help tell the story, but that is not where reputation is really built. In my experience, it is built in the everyday moments that most people never see.

  • It is built when a customer has a question and gets a real answer.
  • It is built when someone receives a product and feels confident that it meets the standard they expected.
  • It is built when a company stays consistent over time, even when things are hard.
  • It is built when you care enough to keep improving.

That is how I have always tried to approach Display Geek. After 10 years, I can honestly say that one of the accomplishments I am proudest of is the reputation this company has built. In the collectibles space, reputation matters more than almost anything else. Collectors talk. They share experiences. They remember quality. They remember service. And they remember whether a company stands behind what it sells.

To still have that trust after a decade is something I do not take lightly.

10 Years in Business Means Something

Ten years is a long time to stay committed to anything, especially in ecommerce.

A lot can change in a decade. Markets change. Customer expectations change. Competition changes. Costs rise. Trends come and go. Some years REALLY test your patience, your discipline, and your belief in what you are building.

That is part of what makes this milestone so meaningful to me.

Display Geek did not appear overnight. It was built step by step, year after year. There were lessons, setbacks, improvements, and a lot of learning along the way. Like any real business, it took persistence. It took adjustments. It took staying focused on the long game.

Honestly, I made moves that no business school would teach. I partnered with competitors to make sure collectors had everything they needed in one place.

And through all of that, I kept coming back to the same core idea: build something collectors can trust.

That idea has guided this business for 10 years.

When I think about what Display Geek represents today, I see more than products on a website. I see the work behind the scenes from a very small group of people. I see the effort it took to build something real. I see a business that stayed focused on serving a community that cares deeply about who it partners with and how it is presented.

I am proud of that.

Why Trust Matters So Much in Collecting

If you are in the collector space, you already understand this: these are not just random items to people. These are childhood memories. Your teenage years in plastic characters. Something that connects you to a moment in time.

Collectors care about what they own because those pieces often represent something personal. A favorite character. A favorite game. A favorite franchise. A memory. A hard-to-find item. Years of searching. A collection built over time.

That is why protection and display matter.

When someone buys a protector, an acrylic case, or a display solution, they are not just buying plastic or materials. They are buying peace of mind. They are buying confidence. They are buying a better way to preserve and enjoy something that matters to them.

I have always respected that.

That is why I have taken Display Geek seriously from the beginning. I have always believed that if you are going to serve collectors, you need to respect the fact that what you are selling plays a role in protecting something meaningful.

That is a responsibility, and I have never treated it casually.

What I’m Most Proud Of

If I had to put it simply, what I am most proud of is that Display Geek has stayed true to its purpose.

We did not try to become everything to everyone. We stayed focused on what we do best: helping collectors protect and display what they love, starting with Funko.

That clarity matters.

I think one of the biggest strengths a niche business can have is knowing exactly who it serves and why. Display Geek has always been for collectors. That has shaped the products we offer, the way we think, and the standards I have tried to maintain over the years.

To build a collector focused brand and keep that reputation strong for 10 years is an accomplishment I feel deeply proud of.

Not because it is easy. But because it is not.

Trust takes a long time to build and very little time to lose. That is one of the reasons I have always cared so much about doing things the right way. Reputation, once earned, becomes one of the most valuable things a company has.

For me, Display Geek’s reputation is one of the achievements that means the most.

Looking Ahead

Even after 10 years, I still feel like there is more ahead for Display Geek.

That is one of the exciting things about building a business. You can appreciate how far you have come while still feeling motivated by where you want to go. There is always room to improve, expand, refine, and keep earning the trust that got you here in the first place.

But no matter what comes next, I do not want to lose sight of what this business was built on.

Display Geek was built on focus. It was built on consistency. It was built on understanding collectors. And most importantly, it was built on trust.

As the founder, that is what means the most to me.

After 10 years, I am proud of what Display Geek has become. I am proud of the reputation it has earned. And I am grateful to every collector who has trusted us along the way.

Because at the end of the day, the biggest accomplishment is not just building a company.

It is building one that people believe in.
